Born, raised and taught in Itally, professor Giannin Angelini is one of the most renowned Cardiac Surgeons in the UK. He obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering before deciding to study medicine in Sienna, moved to the UK for his specialty training in cardiac surgery and was eventually appointed the British Heart Foundation Chair of Cardiac Surgery in Bristol.
He is working both as a clinician, performing both adult and pediatric cardiac surgeries routinely, as well as a researcher. His research aims at identifying problems that occur in every day clinical practice, such as bypass graft failure and myocardial injury and trying to implement changes that will reduce the occurrence of such complications.
Furthermore, he is working on angiogenesis and regenerative medicine, using progenitor cells as cardiovascular biomarkers and in therapy, as well as trials on gene-therapy and external stenting in the treatment of vein graft stenosis.
