Prof. Dr. med. Andrea A. Kühn is a leading international authority in movement disorders and neuromodulation, renowned for her pioneering work on the neural mechanisms underlying Parkinson’s disease and dystonia. She serves as Director of the Movement Disorder and Neuromodulation Unit at the Department of Neurology at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and has previously held a senior research fellowship at the Sobell Department of Motor Neuroscience and Movement Disorders at University College London’s National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.
Through groundbreaking research using invasive recordings from the human basal ganglia, Prof. Kühn has transformed the understanding of cortico–basal ganglia network dynamics and the mechanisms of deep brain stimulation, helping to refine and optimize neuromodulation therapies for patients with movement disorders. With more than 370 peer-reviewed publications, she is among the most influential scientists in clinical neurophysiology and translational neuroscience.
A member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and recipient of prestigious awards from the German Neurological Society and the German Society for Clinical Neurophysiology, Prof. Kühn continues to shape the future of neuromodulation and the modern treatment of movement disorders.
